Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
We collect as little as we can, we don’t sell it, and there are no ads or third-party trackers on Gigmates.
This policy explains how Gigmates handles personal information. Gigmates is run by a sole trader in Sydney, NSW. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as our standard for handling your information.
What we collect
- Account details: your name or act/business name, email address and a securely hashed password (we never see or store the password itself).
- What you add: gigs, profile text, photos, links, merch, rate cards, quote and hire requests, and messages you send through Gigmates.
- Follows and saved gigs: the bands, venues, suburbs and gigs you follow or save. If you aren’t logged in, these stay in your own browser (local storage) and aren’t sent to us.
- Newsletter: your email address if you sign up for the weekly “what’s on” email.
- Marketing consent: whether you ticked “Send me Gigmates news and tips” and when. It’s optional, never pre-ticked, and separate from agreeing to the Terms.
- Venue and studio contact details: the contact name, phone and email you give for your listing. They’re private unless you switch on “Show on my page”.
- Claims and contact messages: your name, email and what you tell us.
- Basic usage counts: how many times each page was viewed per day. This isn’t linked to you; we don’t store IP addresses with it and don’t use tracking cookies.
Cookies
We only use cookies the site needs to work: one to keep you logged in and one to protect forms from cross-site attacks. No advertising or analytics cookies. Some band pages include music players from Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube, SoundCloud or Apple Music; those players are loaded from their own sites, which may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
Why we use it
- to run your account and show what you’ve listed
- to pass requests and messages between organisers, bands and venues
- to check claims before handing over a listing
- to send the newsletter, or news and tips, only if you opted in. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and you can switch it off any time in account settings
- to email you about your account, requests and bookings (these service emails aren’t marketing), and to notify us when a claim, contact message, plan reservation or new venue signup comes in
- to reply when you contact us, and to keep the site secure and stop abuse
Who can see it
Things you publish (your band page, gigs, venue or space listing) are public. Requests and messages are only visible to the people in that conversation and to us. Your email address isn’t shown publicly.
We don’t sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers that run the site for us, or where the law requires it. Gigmates is hosted on Cloudflare (website and database), and emails are sent through Resend; the database is stored in Cloudflare’s Oceania region, but Cloudflare is a global company, so some information may be processed overseas. If we add a payments provider, card details go straight to that provider; we never see or store full card numbers.
Keeping it safe and how long we keep it
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, and access to the database is restricted. We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account we remove your personal information, except where we need to keep records (for example payment records for tax law).
Your choices: access, correction, deletion
You can see and edit most of your information from your dashboard. To stop news and tips emails, use the unsubscribe link in any of them or untick the box in account settings. To get a copy of what we hold, correct something or delete your account, email gigmates.com@gmail.com or contact us. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you’re worried about how we’ve handled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to fix it. If you’re not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We’ll update this policy if what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top.
